Michael W. Palzes, P.E. - Project Management/Civil & Mechanical Design


Michael Palzes is a Registered Civil Engineer in the State of California with over 23 years of experience in the fields of civil/mechanical engineering, specializing in new and rehabilitated water pump and sewage lift station projects. As PRP Engineering's Principal Engineer, Mr. Palzes has extensive experience rehabilitating and upgrading older facilities with modern technology, as well as developing new projects. His credentials and some of his most recently completed facilities are highlighted below.

Recent Project Experience:

Horno Lift Station - Ladera Ranch/Santa Margarita Water District: 

A critical sewage lift station  featuring four sets of two pumps in series providing 1750 gpm @ TDH = 406 ft. per each set of pumps. Other features include: dry/wet/storage wells for one hour average daily storage, onsite odor control injection system with ferrus chloride, construction of building over the dry and 750kw generator, surge tank, wet well bypass and pump connection, flow meter w/ a bypass line, valve vault for emergency operation, trash rack and site improvements.  A separate contract was also prepared for the access road, 16" force main, 21" sewer, 12" reclaimed water main and 8" water main.  Presently under construction, Mr. Palzes was responsible for completing the Preliminary Design Report, Final Design, and Construction Engineering Assistance for a total project cost of 4 million dollars.

Marr Ranch Water Improvement Projects - City of Simi Valley:

Preliminary and Final Design Services with Construction Support Services for .55 and 1.75 MG Reservoirs, a new Zone 1485 Water Booster Pump Station, and Upgrades for Zone 1355 Chumash Water Booster Pump Station.   Two  40 hp pumps outdoors within an enclosed wall will be upgraded to four 75 hp vertical turbine pumps enclosed in a new building with a 255 generator, control center, and other miscellaneous improvements. Estimated Construction Cost: 4 million.

Shaw's Cove Lift Station Upgrades and Rehabilitation Project - City of Laguna Beach:

Preliminary Design Report and Final Design Plans and Specifications to upgrade the existing 35 year old facility with a new dry/wet well, pumps, valves, piping onsite emergency storage and power generation, new controls and building to house the generator and control system.  The project has a limited amount of space and requires that it be operational during the improvement phase. Projects Costs are estimated at $900,000.

Tesoro Zone III Water Booster Pump Station - Santa Margarita Water District:

Preliminary and Final Design of a 4-250 hp Booster Pump Station with building, rate of flow control valve, 700 kw generator, 2 surge tanks, and site improvements. Mr. Palzes  also provided construction support services for the project, which was completed in February, 2004 at a total cost of 1.7 million.

Ladera Ranch Sewage Lift Stations Nos. 1, 2, 3, & 4 - Ladera Ranch Development:

Preliminary and final design of four temporary sewage lift stations that were constructed in accordance with the grading phases of the Ladera Ranch Development, ASCE's 2004 Orange County Project of the Year. The pumps from Station No. 1 were later utilized as the pump units at Stations 2 & 4. Construction costs for facilities 1, 2, & 4 totaled approximately 1.5 million, with Station No. 3 at an additional 1.9 million.

Ortega Lift Station Rehabilitation & Facility Improvements - Santa Margarita Water District:

Preliminary and Final Design for retrofit of existing pumps, with 1 hour avg. daily flow storage well, as well as a Bio-Cube Odor Control System for H2S concentrations exceeding 600 ppm.  Completed January, 2005 at a cost of  $950,000.
